Recently, Circle of Friends Home Care nursing staff underwent
training on an innovative wound treatment that is increasing in popularity.
This wound treatment is called V.A.C. Therapy or Negative Pressure Wound Therapy.
It is a unique system that promotes wound healing by assisting with the removal of infectious materials and interstitial fluids.
This system provides a controlled, localized negative pressure to help uniformly draw wounds closed.
Circle of Friends Home Care plans to work with KCI The Clinical Advantage of Des Moines,
to receive ongoing education and "wound vac" supplies. "We are excited to see what this therapy can do for our clients,
who suffer from chronic wounds," said Amanda Schroeder, RN, BSN, Nurse Administrator.
According to KCI representatives, this therapy is covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance companies.
It also decreases the cost to home care agencies, as it requires fewer wound care supplies and fewer home nurse visits. |
